Role of Genetic Resources to Society: Laws

In response to social concerns and the appropriate use of research resources, the handing of biogenetic resources requires the observance of various laws, Thus, a sound understanding of such laws is essential for smooth implementation of research. Further, in Japan, which advocates an intellectual property-oriented nation, company employees and researchers are increasingly required to have knowledge of intellectual properties. The knowledge of crops developed from genetic resources are also important. In this subject, students will gain knowledge necessary for properly handling genetically modified animals and plants, as well as knowledge of intellectual property protection systems, particularly the Plant Variety Protection and Seed Act.
